📢 Calling all Black and Latino men in our community! Join us for an empowering and important health event designed for you!
Circle of Strength: A Night of Brotherhood and Wellness is more than an event—it’s a call to every father, brother, son, uncle, cousin, and friend in our community. As Prostate Cancer Awareness Month begins, we invite Black and Latino men to join us in a safe, sacred gathering where stories and wisdom are shared, and support is real.
🗓 Date: Saturday, September 13, 2025
🕒 Time: 3:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M.
📍 Location: The Carol L Crooms Center, 1105 Park Avenue, Utica, NY 13501
There will be inspiring presentations by Terrance Afer-Anderson, dinner service, and a physician panel & Q&A.
Why this matters:
- Black men in the U.S. are about 1 in 6 likely to develop prostate cancer in their lifetime—compared to 1 in 8 men overall.
- Black men are nearly 2 times as likely to die from prostate cancer as white men, and face a 60% higher incidence rate overall.
- Latino men also face unique risks Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Latino men and the fourth leading cause of cancer death in this group, with over 13,000 cases and 1,800 deaths each year in the U.S.
Disparities in access to care, cultural stigma, and late diagnosis put our community at extra risk—yet together, we can break the silence and support one another to change these outcomes.
Saturday, Sept 13, 3–7 pm, Utica. Begin with The Black Walnut film, then engage with a caring physician panel, hear personal testimonies, and access resources for your wellness journey. Dinner served, voices uplifted, legacies honored. This is not just about health—it’s about community, strength, and ensuring no man stands alone.
